The Astoria-Meglar Bridge is the longest continuous cantilever truss bridge in the world and spans across the Columbia River 4.1 miles from Astoria, Oregon, to Point Ellice, Washington, and connects Highway 101 between Oregon and Washington. Construction on the bridge began in 1962 and was formally dedicated August 27, 1966. The bridge replaced ferry lines running from Oregon to Washington. The bridge was a toll bridge until 1993, and since it was paid off at that time, the toll was removed. The bridge was built to withstand 150 mph wind gusts and river speeds of 9 mph.
